Gugu, an 11-year-old boy who dreams of becoming a football player, lives under the loving, open-minded care of his grandmother, Dilma, that shields him from the disapproval of Gugu’s father and the community around them. When subtle changes unsettle their routine, and Dilma becomes increasingly fragile, Gugu fears losing the only safe space he’s ever known.
