Join MIX CPH 2026 and help spread the queer agenda.
Do you want to organise one the oldest LGBTQIA+ festivals in the world? Of course you do!
APPLICATION DEADLINE
DECEMBER 2OTH
MIX CPH LGBTQ+ Film Festival happens every fall and is one of the world’s longest-running queer film festivals, active since 1986. Our goal is to provide a strong platform for LGBTQIA+ stories and creators.
Our most important time is the 10 days of the festival that usually happens in late October. During that period we have several film screenings and events happening in different venues in the city.
In addition, we also have smaller initiatives throughout the year; such as film screenings, premieres, debates and more. We strive to work with other LGBTQIA+ organisations to create and maintain a space for LGBTQIA+ community all year round.

📣
The requirements
📣 You speak and write English.
English is a requirement because that’s the language we use in all of our meetings and internal communication.
Big part of our communication with our audience is bilingual, so speaking Danish is a bonus but absolutely not a requirement.
📣 You can commit to being in MIX for the whole year.
📣 You can work on MIX approx. 10 hours a week.
Volunteer hours vary throughout the year. The beginning of the year we watch films and in Oct/Nov we have the festival, and both may require more of your time. The 3 monthly meetings are also included in this time estimate. Don’t worry…you can do all the work from home at your own time. It’s very flexible.
📣 You can commit to 3 monthly meetings
These meetings start at 17:30 and are traditionally held on weekdays at the MIX Office.
📣 You listen to and respect others.
We pride ourselves in maintaining a safer space in MIX and want you to be passionate about it too.
📣 You get involved and take responsibility and initiative.
The beauty of being a MIX volunteer is that this space is yours, and you get to co-create it!
📣 You are a good communicator.
Communication is key to being a MIX volunteer. We also appreciate if you’re able to work collaboratively and have a willingness to learn.

MIX CPH work
There are 4 simple steps to organise a festival like MIX Copenhagen:
🍿 Step 1.
Watch and select the films
🎪 Step 2.
Organise nice events
📣 Step 3.
Communicate it all
🗃 Step 4.
Admin, admin, admin
🍿 Step 1.
Watch and Select the Films
The biggest part of the festival is the selection of films we show. We’ll be working on tasks like:
Watch and rate submitted films
Research current films
Discuss films in group and curate different programs
Negotiate screening rights with the film producers
Manage the film trafficking (getting the film file from the producer to the cinema where it will be screened)
🎪 Step 2.
Organise Events
Besides (and alongside) the great films we show, we also have events that spread the queer agenda during the festival. Tasks will look like:
Organise premieres and collaborations with other organisations (cinemas, other festivals, etc) during the whole year
Plan and execute the Closing party
Plan and execute events like panels, talks, workshops
Recruit and coordinate our MIXtivists (hands-on volunteers during the festival period)
Select and coordinate the travel and stay of the international Jury and other guests coming to Cph for the festival
Organise the pitching competition Queering the Pitch. Learn more
📣 Step 3. Communicate It All
After we select the films and events, it’s time to spread the word. We need to communicate all the MIX initiatives to our current and potential audience. What the work looks like in Communication:
Manage our social media channels, including posting/scheduling/sharing posts and answering messages
Work on developing communication strategies and initiatives
Manage the website, adding film pages and links to tickets, etc
Contact potential sponsors and make partnerships
Proofread and make editorial editing of our printed program text
Create the strategy to advertise our fims and events during the festival and online festival
Negotiate spaces for the festival, both online and physical billboards in the city
Make the PR for the festival, including making press-releases and contacting media vehicles and journalists
Since the printed program is bi-lingual, if you can speak/write Danish fluently is a bonus, but not a requirement.
🗃 Step 4.
Admin, Admin, Admin
Being a big organisation with support from different stakeholders, administration is a vital (and often unseen) part of MIX festival. To ensure we keep working smoothly, we have admin tasks like:
Manage the budget, expenses and overall finances of the festival
Apply for funding
Negotiate and sign the contract with the cinemas we collaborate
