The film: Sebastian

Max, a young aspiring writer, begins a double life as a sex worker to research his debut novel. What begins as a few furtive meetings soon becomes a secret nocturnal life as his alter ego “Sebastian.” As he confronts feelings of ecstasy and shame, Max must decide if Sebastian is only a writer's tool to achieve authenticity—or if something more is at stake.

The panel:

Join us for a panel on the evolving intersection of sex work, cinema, and societal change.

Sex work has gained a more visible, nuanced presence in film and media — particularly within queer spaces. We explore how this visibility contributes to challenging stigma, reshaping public perception, and improving working conditions for sex workers themselves.

Aphinya Jatuparisakul is an award nominated Isaan born writer, visual artist, democracy activist, co-founder and former leader of The Red Van association. Her work often centers on the themes of transnational migration, class, media representation, identity and the lives of migrant women, drawing from her own personal experiences.
