The film: Lotus Sports Club

Shot in Cambodia, 'Lotus Sports Club' is an inspiring story that centers Leak and Amas, two teenage trans men playing football in Pa Vann's team. The coach and father-figure established the team to encourage solidarity among straight and queer players. Being also a trans man, he opened his home to the more vulnerable, often homeless queer teenagers.


The panel:
This panel will discuss the slow pace of LGBTQIA+ inclusion in sports, specifically focusing on the unique challenges experienced by trans* and non-binary individuals in gendered sports. We will delve into the necessity of creating separatist spaces, not only for the broader LGBTQIA+ community but also within the community itself, particularly for FLINTA folks.

Join us as we explore strategies to overcome these obstacles and work towards a more inclusive and accepting environment for all individuals in the world of sports.

Panelists:

  • Thea Inuk Lønberg-Jensen (she/her) - Pan Idræt, responsible for creating specifically separatist spaces for trans and non-binary identities within in Pan Idræt.

  • Michael Pye (he/him) - co-founder of Sunday Sessions (2017-present), a weekly skateboarding space for women, non-binary, and trans people of all ages and abilities.

  • Elijah Yemoja (he/him/they/them) - professional African/Danish athlete. As a Long distance runner in the Elite field, they are currently training to qualify into the men's category as the first black trans male athlete in DK or EU.

  • Frix Rode (she/her) - Coach and skater for Copenhagen Roller Derby

Moderator:

  • Tane Audi (she/her) - Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, as well as social impact specialist, building psychologically safe spaces for folks from marginalized groups. Sports enthusiast.
