We The Animals

Jeremiah Zagar

94 min

English (Danish subtitles)

Three inseparable brothers tear through childhood in the midst of their parents’ volatile relationship that makes and unmakes the family many times over, leaving the boys fending for themselves. The older boys grow into versions of their Paps, while Ma shelters her youngest, Jonah. More sensitive and desperate to escape, Jonah increasingly embraces an imagined world all on his own. Based on Justin Torres’ acclaimed book of the same name, 'We the Animals' defines queer childhood as its own entity.

The Cinematheque has level access.
