After his mother’s sudden death, Socrates, a 15-year-old living on the margin of society in São Paulo, must survive on his own. Facing isolation because of his sexuality, his search for a better life reaches a breaking point. ‘Socrates’ is the first feature film co-written, produced and acted by at-risk teenagers from low-income communities in Brazil.

Based on real events, Jonathas is an adoptee who is returned to the orphanage because his new parents don’t accept his effeminate mannerisms. His response demonstrates his resilience against the prejudice he is facing. ‘The Orphan’ was awarded the Queer Palm Award for Best LGBTQI short film at Cannes 2018.
